13 Firsts is a student-led podcast created by duPont Manual students in October of 2022. We created 13 Firsts with the hope of informing our community about the educational and social injustices we face in our educational careers, whether that is in our county, state, or country; 13 Firsts covers issues all across the country, and from every grade level. Topics that have been discussed include mobility accessibility, summer learning loss, busing, and school land use. Additionally, we aspire to bridge the divide between educators and students, and amplify the awareness and respect that we have towards each other. In March 2023, we were able to attend the Deeper Learning Conference with the help of Justice Fest, allowing us to network with teachers from across the country and mental health experts. We have also created partnerships with WXOX 97.1, Louisville Public Media, YR Media, and podcasting group Ten Percent Happier.

Executive Producer: Addison Lowry

Hi! I’m Addison Lowry, the Executive Producer. I love anything pink and all things involving audio editing and content creation. The thing I love most about 13 Firsts is the ability to create something that will have a lasting impact on my community. I am also a part of a youth-based journalism magazine called On The Record, where I specialize in multimedia content. You can always catch me spending time with family and friends when I’m not working on 13 Firsts.

Content Manager: Viet Pham

Hi! I'm Viet Pham, the Content and Workspace Manager. I love using my favorite lippies, stealing my friends' food, and being sickening boots! I love 13 Firsts because I can use my specialties to make change; there are so many different roles and jobs that require a plethora of skills.

Communications Director: Kennedy Miles

Hi, I'm Kennedy Miles and I'm the Communications Lead. I am on the track team and also a part of a literary magazine production team called One Blue Wall, which is where I get to pursue my passion for writing poetry. I like being a part of 13 Firsts because it allows for me to be connected with my community more, and to think of ways to help them.

Design Head: Ellie Moses

Hello! I’m Ellie and I’m the head of graphic design. I’m an art major and love to read books in my free time. I love being able to be creative while also speaking about issues I’m passionate about through 13 Firsts.

Photo Editor + Social Media head: Maddie Lynn

Hi! My name is Maddie and I’m a social media head. I’m a sophomore and I have 4 cats. I love to create content for our social media and website. My favorite part of 13 Firsts is the way it empowers youth voices and allows them to be heard.

Social Media Head: Danica Gabehart

Hello! I’m Danica Gabehart and I am a social media co-manager. I like to listen to music and play video games. My favorite part about 13 Firsts is learning about and educating others on local issues.

Hi, I’m Giselline Danger and I’m a Managing Editor. I enjoy running and hanging out with my friends! My favorite part about 13 Firsts is getting to know new people along with their opinions and ideas.

Managing Editor: David Schenk

Hey, I'm David Schenk and I'm a Managing Editor at 13 Firsts. When I'm not writing, I enjoy podcasting, photography, and apples in my free time. My apple tierlist: Cosmic Crisp; Pink Lady; i have harsh feelings towards Honey Crisps; Opal; SugarBee; and lastly Cripps Red for brownie points.
